Education Estates & Residential Housing
In 2025, European Asbestos Services (EAS) was appointed by North Yorkshire Council to deliver a comprehensive three-year asbestos removal and compliance programme across the region’s education buildings and residential homes. This award followed a competitive tender process and reflects the Council’s confidence in our technical capability and ability to work sensitively within live, high-risk or vulnerable environments.
The contract spans a diverse and complex estate including primary and secondary schools, sheltered housing schemes, high-rise accommodation, supported living environments and general needs housing. Each of these settings presents its own operational challenges from protecting children and teaching staff during intrusive works, to safeguarding vulnerable adults and maintaining safe access in residential properties. Our delivery model for North Yorkshire Council has been designed specifically to meet these needs.
One of the defining strengths of EAS is our capacity to operate within occupied, time-sensitive and safety-critical environments. Schools require phased delivery aligned with term schedules, exam periods and safeguarding requirements. Residential settings demand respectful communication, discretion and strict access management. Our teams undertake works out of hours, during holidays or in sequenced blocks to keep buildings operational wherever possible.
Responsiveness is essential across a large rural authority such as North Yorkshire. To meet this demand, EAS has established strategically positioned teams capable of covering the county efficiently, including remote or hard-to-reach locations. We maintain a 24/7 emergency response service, with rapid attendance for accidental disturbances, leak-related fibre release, fire-damage assessments, or urgent safety concerns in homes and school buildings. Our one-hour mobilisation capability ensures that risks are controlled immediately and safely.
Throughout the contract, resident and stakeholder communication remains central. Our operatives are trained to work respectfully with families, teachers, children, elderly or vulnerable residents, and individuals requiring additional support. We provide clear pre-visit information, safeguarding-compliant identification, and step-by-step explanations of the work being undertaken. For schools, we work directly with Headteachers, Site Managers and Asbestos Duty Holders to schedule works in a way that protects pupils and avoids disruption to learning.
Quality assurance is maintained through robust internal and external auditing, including ARCA inspections, unannounced internal audits, and Director-level site reviews. North Yorkshire Council receives complete visibility of compliance trends, KPI performance and safety outcomes through regular meetings and digital reporting. This structured, transparent approach ensures continuous improvement and consistent delivery across all properties.
